2017 YouthSpark Live event – Student Internship Program leadership camp – We make the imPACT

Event Overview

The event was divided into two parts. One is model leader sharing. We invited four speakers delivering four different topics which benefits youth a lot and provided them with proficient insights regarding leadership. The other part of leadership camp is utilizing and demonstrating Microsoft latest technology. We not only arrange IT booths to exhibit AI, IoT and Power BI technique, we also utilize Azure to develop a gaming web, and inspire youth to Microsoft technology through the interesting game.

Vincent Shih, Microsoft Taiwan Corporate External and Legal Affairs general manager, gave a whole picture of  the digital transformation of Microsoft. He also demonstrated Microsoft videos how Microsoft make every person, every organization on the planet to achieve more by Microsoft technology. At the end of the speech, Vincent encouraged the intern to seize the opportunities and create values in the rest of intern journey.

Role model Speech

Anting Liu, the founder of Teach for Taiwan (TFT, a Taiwanese NPO) devoted herself into education of remoted area in Taiwan. She shared her experience about running a NPO and the definition of “leadership”. In her opinion, everyone can be a leader as long as they know what they really want to do and what they want to dedicate themselves in the near future. With the comprehensive thinking about life, she believed youth can have positive impact on Taiwan society.

Thomas Mao, the team leader of Space Bar, which won the first prize of Best Mission Concept Global NASA Hackathon 2017. Thomas not only demonstrated their sophisticated project, but also shared how he team-worked with members from diversified professional background. In addition to technical ability, he encouraged interns especially RDAAs (interns with technical background) should equip themselves with soft skill, including communication and collaboration.

Michael Ho shared his career with great elaboration and concluded 6 soft powers that he believes youth should own. Furthermore, as an Open Source Software Lead in Microsoft, he delivered his ideas about sharing and what the brand new tech(Cloud) is. He encouraged interns to learn programing and tried everything as much as possible in terms. And He also highlighted Microsoft is a place values bold innovations and execution. Being an intern in Microsoft will also broaden ones horizon in many different aspects.

Inspired by Microsoft’s Entry Access Control, IoT interns’ “IoT Smart Office” project use Azure Cloud Services, such as Face API, Stream Analytics, IoT Hub, to activate facing recognition, Data Processing and bi-directional communication of device. The project effectively raise the security, convenience and information interoperability of Entry Access Control System.

The interns of Office marketing introduce Power BI including Power Query, Power Pivot, Power View and Power Maps techniques. These functions transform the cold data into clear and understandable chart, which greatly improve the work efficiency. In MTC’s demo, through Face API and emotional API, showed that the users’ age, gender and emotion can be collected through Face recognition service in Kiosk.

The RD-background interns demonstrated their expertise by creating a web App that play a key role in the RPG game in the camp. This web App is deployed on Microsoft Azure cloud platform with its web App service which makes the deployment process easier. Also, a chat robot was built on LINE App to automatically reply camp related answers to participants.

Interns build up a multi-discipline team to hold leadership camp. Interns with event planning and marketing skill are responsible for activity planning and storyline writing; RDAAs are responsible for web App for RPG games; other task such as campsite communication, decoration and design were allocated to interns with related skill. Leadership camp give interns a good chance to working as a team, to understand the skill of collaboration via learning through playing.

About the program

Starting from 2004, Microsoft Taiwan “Student Internship Program” provided more than 100 internship opportunities per year to all college students in Taiwan regardless of which school or which department they were in. This program provides students one full year of training, mentoring and practical hand-on working experience. Not only does this program empower students with self-exploration but also support them in setting their career and life objectives.

This program had nurtured more than 1,500 talented intern students. More than 96% of them were employed right after their graduation. They successfully obtained job offers from well-known companies such as P&G, HP, HTC, TSMC and Ogilvy, and some of them have also successfully begun their entrepreneurship career.final

活動總覽:

2017台灣微軟亮點青年新世代「領袖營」活動,9月2日~3日於台北辦公室和新竹溫馨庭園舉行,超過110名實習生參與盛會。今年領袖營的主軸以微軟FY18的「imPACT」為核心,期許活動後實習生們學習到「Passion」、「Aspiration」、「Collaboration」及「Trust」等4大能力。

兩天一夜的活動分為「名人演講」以及「微軟科技實戰」。「名人演講」邀請了4位不同領域領導者,和同學分享如何成為好的領導者,以及領導者應具備的特質及能力。「微軟科技實戰」是由實習生自發組成跨專業團隊。除了展示微軟Azure、Power BI等科技外,也使用Azure架設了遊戲網站,讓同學在遊戲中體驗微軟科技。

活動亮點-演講分享

台灣微軟數位化轉型-施立成 Vincent 台灣微軟CELA總經理

台灣微軟CELA總經理Vincent為實習生介紹微軟近年所致力數位化轉型故事。藉由微軟影片展現公司的科技實力,同時搭配同仁的創意及對社會的敏感洞察,研發出許多讓世界更好的科技技術,達成「讓地球上每個人、每個組織都能成就更多」的企業使命。Vincent在演講的最後也鼓勵大家在實習的一年當中去爭取更多的參與的機會,為自己、為公司創造更多價值。

名人分享

號召台灣青年一同為偏鄉兒童教育努力的「為台灣而教」(TFT)創辦人劉安婷,與同學分享他對「領導者」的定義:並不是CEO、團隊領袖才可以是領導者,只要是對於自己未來、對社會現況有想法,並想要發揮所長去改變社會的人,都可以是領導者。劉安婷也勉勵大家,對人生不需要有「藍圖」,而是「拼圖」,藉由人生中各種體驗及經驗累積對未來的想像,才能建構出最適合自己的未來。劉安婷也期待在場同學在未來,都能成為有正向影響力的「領導者」。

成為世界第一不是夢

第三位講者毛弘仁目前是台大電機系的大三學生。小小年紀的他在去年參加了由美國NASA主辦的NASA 黑客松競賽,首次參與就與團隊拿下「最佳概念獎」的殊榮,成為名副其實的「世界第一」。在演講中,毛弘仁不只與同學分享得獎作品,也與大家分享他認為研發人才應具備的「軟實力」,包含溝通能力及團隊合作能力,兩者兼具才能成為優異的研發人才。

我的微軟之路

大中華區開源雲產品經理的何諺錡,與同學分享6個年輕人應具備的軟實力。除此之外,他也與同學介紹雲端等共享資源的概念及趨勢。藉由MACH計劃進入微軟的何諺錡,也以過來人的經驗,鼓勵同學們多多嘗試新的事物,就算不是RD背景的同學也可以嘗試寫程式,讓生活有更多的刺激及成長。

微軟科技實戰  IoT科技體驗

除了名人演講之外,領袖營也由實習生自組團隊,以微軟科技為工具,進行一連串的活動。IoT部門的實習生發起「IoT智慧辦公室」專案,透過Azure雲端服務如Face API、Stream Analytics、IoT Hub等技術服務,透過影像辨識、資料處理、裝置連網提升公司門禁系統的安全性、便利性、資料互通性。  MTC及Power BI科技體驗  Office365的實習生也發揮他們對於Power BI的專業知識,與同學介紹包括Power Query、Power Pivot、Power View、Power Maps等技術,幫助大家了解平常在工作上可以運用哪些功能以增加工作效率,以及如何透過Excel將冷冰冰的數字轉換成生動、可以一目了然的圖表及地圖。 MTC部門的實習生也與大家分享FACE API科技:藉由受測者靠近機台時,攝影機會抓取受測者的臉部狀態,並將狀態重送至AI辨識服務,進而辨識出情緒、年齡、性別。  遊戲中學習:藉Azure建置遊戲網站  領袖營團隊RD團隊發揮專長,使用react nodeJs express socket.io製作,後端選擇使用mongoDB作為資料庫,再搭配微軟azure web app service簡化部屬網站,並與領袖營團隊設計的RPG遊戲相輔相成,讓實體遊戲增添了科技感,也讓非RD背景的實習生體驗到科技原來可以與生活很接近。

跨專業團隊

此次領袖營部分活動由當屆實習生策畫執行,並依據自身專長,分成活動企劃組、網頁研發組、行政事務組等,團隊合作下,讓100多位實習生們體驗了相當多有趣的互動活動,策畫的同學們也學習到團隊合作、溝通的重要性。
